In 1999, Mr. Hall entered the race for Mayor of the City of Bakersfield, with his campaign focused on quality of life issues, city beautification and restoration, business and education.  Running under the slogan “Unity in the Community,” Mr. Hall handily defeated a slate of nine other candidates in the March 2000 election to go on to become Bakersfield’s 25th Mayor. On January 2, 2001, during his swearing-in ceremony, Mayor Hall made clear his intentions with his statement:  “Our city is one of greatness, and it will be my goal everyday to make every day better than the day before, and to try and make this city the best city in America.”

Mayor Hall was re-elected in 2004, 2008 and 2012.  On January 7, 2013, Mayor Hall was sworn-in to serve his fourth term in office, making him the longest serving mayor in Bakersfield’s history.

Bakersfield boasts a remarkable population increase over the last two decades, more than doubling from 161,670 in 1989 to 352,428 in July 2011.  Bakersfield is the 9th largest city in the State of California, the 51st largest city and one of the fastest growing regions in the United States.

This ever-changing face of the City presents Mayor Hall with abundant opportunities to promote commerce while encouraging citizens to rise to meet the challenges of the future with determination, dedication and tenacity.  Mayor Hall staunchly believes that Bakersfield is a City on the rise, and is full of optimism and confidence that Bakersfield’s tomorrows are bright!
