As we continue our journey towards becoming a highly efficacious professional learning community (PLC), many teachers have shared with us the excellent work transpiring across the District. The PLC framework provides the structure and processes to build teachers’ collective capacity to achieve common goals though their commitment to helping all students learn at high levels. Teachers work interdependently to systematically address the four guiding questions of the PLC:

• What do we want students to learn?

• How will we know if they have learned it?

• What do we do if they do not learn it?

• What do we do if they do learn it?

The four guiding questions challenge us to reject the status quo and commit to our fundamental purpose; we exist so all students can learn at high levels. The ongoing cycle of continuous improvement is essential to how we help all students succeed because it requires us to constantly seek better ways to achieve mutual goals.

A message from the Board President
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community,

On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to welcome you to Bakersfield City School District (BCSD). Our commitment to Equity, Integrity, Caring, Collaboration, and Personal and Collective Accountability make BCSD a great place for children to learn.

As Board President, I am honored to serve the children and families of Bakersfield City Schools. An important part of our Mission is to create an open and welcoming environment for all parents and community members in order that we foster their active engagement in the learning process. Parents play an instrumental role in supporting student learning and it is very important that we continue to work together in shaping their future.

We encourage you to attend our Board of Education meetings which take place every fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in our Board Room.  You can also stay informed by accessing our Board meeting agendas, Board minutes, and Action Reports linked below.

We value your partnership and look forward to your continued support and commitment in working in the best interest of children.

Sincerely,

Lillian Tafoya, Board President
